DOLOMITES: HIKING PARADISE

Photography, Worldwide - Uljana Egli - 18. September 2016

Before we got our dog I wasn’t much of a hiker. To be honest, I had never given a vacation in the mountains, purely for the reasons of going hiking much thought. But when I started researching regions for going hiking that weren’t too hot in September, offered scenic landscapes, were dog friendly and that were a manageable drive away from Dresden, the Dolomites kept popping up. And I must say, the Dolomites did not disappoint. Already on our first hike on the first day we were in awe by the views and the nature surrounding us.

SUNRISE ON THE BROOKLYN BRIDGE

Personal, Photography, Worldwide - Uljana Egli - 27. November 2015

Sunday mornings are probably my favourite part of the entire week. I believe me having worked almost all Sundays when I was at uni has me appreciating the tranquility and easiness of these mornings even more. Where my Saturdays are mostly spent running errands, getting work done or catching up with housework, Sundays generally have no deadline to them. It’s okay to sleep in, take time to drink coffee and linger just some more at the breakfast table watching reruns of 80s tv series. It also doesn’t even matter whether I spent the mornings in the forrest taking my dog for a nice long walk or waking up to the sounds of a big city such as New York or London. There is just something completely magic about it.

A SUMMER WEEKEND IN PRAGUE

Photography, Worldwide - Uljana Egli - 15. November 2015

When it comes to travelling and exploring new countries or cities, one always tends to choose the ones that are furthest away first, kind of ignoring the places where we live. It’s a phenomenon that I experienced more than once. Growing up in Magdeburg, it took me 14 years to actually set foot in the Magdeburg Cathedral for the first time. It is the oldest Gothic cathedral in Germany and one of the most important sights to see when visiting Magdeburg.

LONDON SNAPS

Life, Personal, Photography, Worldwide - Uljana Egli - 18. August 2015

London stole my heart. Ever since my uni days back in the early 2000s it’s been one of the places that I love to travel to and I do so at every opportunity. With London it is not so much about the touristy places that people from all over the world flock to when they visit that make me love this city so much, but it is more about the off beaten tracks and hidden corners.

BAVARIAN NATIONAL FOREST

Germany, Photography - Uljana Egli - 24. May 2015

A couple of weeks ago I bought this book as we always look for inspiration on where to go and what to see in Germany. One recommendation was the primeval forest in the Bavarian National Park, which is also the first national park in Germany. As we’re spending this long weekend in Bavarian anyhow I looked up a tour which would take us right through this old-growth forest.

MALLORCA: EXPLORING THE SIERRA DE TRAMUNTANA

Photography, Worldwide - Uljana Egli - 2. February 2015

There were times when I didn’t experience the urge to visit Mallorca, the biggest of the Balearic Islands. Despite reading and hearing that some parts of the island were indeed beautiful and worth seeing, Mallorca never made it on the bucket list of places to visit. This changed after a first short trip in 2011.

END OF YEAR HIKE IN BIELATAL

In & Around Dresden, Photography - Uljana Egli - 26. January 2015

Between a very busy Christmas holiday week and the start of the new year, we got up early one morning and went for a hike in Rosenthal-Bielatal. It had snowed and I really wanted to see the the Elbe Sandstone Mountain covered in snow. Funnily enough, I had never been out hiking in the winter when it had snowed in the 3,5 years that I have lived  in Dresden. So seeing the sandstones on a glorious morning covered in snow was a first for me.

FOOD FOR THE SOUL

Photography, Worldwide - Uljana Egli - 2. July 2014

One month ago we went to Zeeland in the Netherlands for a long weekend. Despite the long drive it was pure food for the soul to breathe and feel the salty breeze and gaze at the endless skies. We walked along the wide sandy beaches and watched the dog experience the salty waters of the North Sea for his first time. It was warm enough to wear shorts and wade through the water. This weekend felt like a one-week-long vacation and a nice start to a busy month travelwise. Continue Reading

CHASING THE LIGHT IN WALES

Photography, Worldwide - Uljana Egli - 24. June 2014

A couple of weeks ago I spent a few hours in the small town of Holyhead at the Welsh coast. I had accompanied my dad on a road trip to Dublin and we stopped in Holyhead for the night. After a short nap and dinner, I thought it was still to early and the weather too nice to be going straight to bed. So even though I was fairly tired, I grabbed my camera and took a walk along the coast.

ISLAND HOPPING IN THE CARIBBEAN

Photography, Worldwide - Uljana Egli - 6. April 2014

Hello! So, we’re back from our Caribbean Island hopping trip. Well, honestly, we got back almost three weeks ago (has it really been that long already?). I am ashamed to admit that work has pulled us right back in, barely giving me a moment to at least post a few snapshots from our trip.
